Can anyone help,
I am a 40 year old English guy living in England, I met a 30 year old Thai girl in England about 4 months ago. She doesn't speak much English and I have learnt a little Thai, so most talking is done through one of her Thai friends. I have fallen for this girl and she says she loves me! The subject of dowry has been brought up £1,000.00 and I must send £350 per month to her family if I want to marry her, also that I must go to Thailand to meet her mother and get married. She also says she wants a baby and is worried I will leave Her. Is it normal to pay £350 per month or am I a visa and cash point.

Dowry sounds reasonable and going to meet her parents is also a reasonable request. To me though, demanding that you shell out 350 pounds a months seems unreasonable. (That is nearly twice the average monthly household income in Thailand)

My recommendation is, find a local Thai/English translator, who isn't part of her circle of firends and really sit down and discuss these issues, if her English abilities are lacking. That way you can really talk about these expectations of hers without everything being filtered through her friends. Questions like what her current visa situation is, what she envisions your finances to be, what she wants from the relationship all need to be settled.

If you get a chance, post again and fill in the background info as well, where she is from, what she is doing there, etc.....

cheers
